You Get TWO of these Antique Adirondack style log cabin bookends made of cast iron with surface flashed in copper. These are bookends or doorstops. They can be used for either and work very well too. They are heavy pieces. Each one weighs well over 2 pounds. I have a few of these. I purchased them at the estate of the owner of the original mold that was used to make these pieces at the Eureka Steel Range Company. I purchased the mold and several of the cast pieces. Now the Legion Home 137 in O\'Fallon, Illinois has the mold displayed in the home.
These are neat pieces of history and serve a great purpose or use them as a decoration. My daughter uses a pair in my grandson\'s room, decorated in the rustic log cabin era. Pretty neat. There may be a small corrosion spot on them. That is typical on this type of copper coated molded steel. It will easily brush off. I will leave that to you. No breaks or other noted damage - each cabin measures 6 1/4” inches across base and stand 3 3/4” inches tall. You can purchase more than one pair as I have a few available. Just click how many pairs you want.
You are buying a pair of these, you get two or them, use as bookends or a doorstop, each advertising a couple things. First, the Eureka Steel Range Co and second, the Legion Home 137, both in O\'Fallon, Illinois. Here is a bit of history of each.
The Legion Home was built in 1934 by American Legion Post 137 using old light poles from the trolley line that once ran through O\'Fallon. It was a log home. Had a hugh wagon-wheel chandelier inside too.Originally it stood at the northeast corner of Washington & Vine. After 40 years or so, the home was moved to its present location, 209 East 5th Street. It still serves as a community meeting place today.
The Eureka Steel Range Company began as the Willard Steel Range Company. Founded byWilliam G. Willard in 1896. It was located south of Betty Lane in O\'Fallon. The factory primarily made cooking stoves. Not the kind we use today, at least not most of us. They also made the old wood burning and coalburning heating stoves. Later it became known as the Eureka Steel Range Company. The company liquidated in 1941. Below is the home.
