On May 10, 1876, eleven years after the end of the Civil War, Ulysses S. Grant opened the International Exposition in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the United States.
The detailed hand holds a fan shaped embossed floral leaf motif vase, and the words "Centennial 1876" appear in raised letters on the base.
