| Description: |
| This primitive style box has a hand-painted scene of the "Mondsee", a beautiful resort lake in the Salzkammergut region of Austria. The opposite side is a painted scene of "The Dachstein", the highest peak in that region. Decoupage "crests" decorate the top of the textured lid with a paper attached to the bottom of the lid saying, "My Property" in German. From the hand-painted heart on each end it appears that this was meant to hold love letters or mementos. The lid has a very slight warp and tiny flakes of gesso have worn off but clearly this very special piece was the treasure of someone very long ago.
