A Chinese cabinet with 8 drawers and two door, lacquered in black , with gilded and terracotta floral spray decoration. Probably late Victorian or Edwardian period (circa 1880-1910). It has two diagonal central doors, opening to reveal three pigeon holes, presumably for letters. It has 6 small drawers to either side of the door, one drawer across the too, and a deeper larger drawer to the base. Pretty chased copper hinges and escutcheons (these once may have been silver plated). Cabinet measures 32.5cm high, 23.5cm wide and 13cm deep (12.3/4 inches by 9.1/4 inches by 5 inches). Very sound condition overall, with some dulling and minor losses of lacquer, except for the top, which has patches of pitting and loss of lacquer. One handle is off one of the small drawers. This item came from the Wagener Museum here in Northland, New Zealand, which closed some years ago. Very pretty item.
