Native American Beaded Leather Belt, Silver Buckle
Description:
This belt and buckle is truly "one of a kind". The silver buckle measures 3 x 2.25 in. inscribed Otto Malmo. The leather belt is fully beaded with no damage I can find. This item was purchased at a museum near Mille Lacs Lake Mn. in the 1950's era. There is a small town called Malmo nearby that still exists today as a couple of resort facilities. Otto Malmo was the founder of the town named Malmo. Named after a town in Sweden that he immigrated from. This was made for and presented to him by the chief of the Ojibway tribe in the same area. The belt was in honor of the 50th anniversary of the town. The total length of the belt and buckle is 36 in. This has been in my possession since purchasing it in the '50's era at an auction in the Malmo, Mille Lacs Lake area. Many museum items were being auctioned that day. If I can be of further help, just ask the questions. This is definitely a vintage piece of Native American and Mille Lacs Lake, Minnesota history.
