An unusual large ewer - possibly a wash jug. The beautiful handle has a face at the rear of the jug lip, and the handle is formed by her hair cascading in a loose plait down the side of the body. Very well detailed, with gilded highlights. Duck-egg blue body in a soft semi matt glaze, with gloss white above and below gilded bands. A loose tress of hair forms the decoration for the foot. The stylish spout is a thick decorated rim.
Ewer measures 45 cm high (17.3/4 inches). It is stamped with an underglaze mark under the foot, but this is very difficult to read. My guess is it reads Haviland & Co, France, and this lovely jug is from Limoges. Excellent condition.
