This is a nice clean cast steel saw set pliers for setting hand saw teeth to a certain angle for better cutting ability, generally on antique or vintage cross-cut hand saws, but may have other applications as well. This one is the pistol grip style, much like the Stanley No. 42, butis not marked by the maker, but only marked "MADE IN THE U.S.A." on the inside handle area. It is about 95% like new with some black paint wear, but otherwise in near new condition! This model is adjustable, and has an incremented dial to show the degree of setting desired. The plunger is steel and as well as the setting pad and the screw hardware. The plunger is spring loaded, so it returns to the opened position to give clearance to move to the next tooth to be set. The thread screw and nut assembly is design to have the ball point touch the edge of the saw blade while setting the tooth for consistance tooth angle settings on the entire saw blade, plus on this model another adjustable steel guide is provide for positioning the top of the teeth if so desired, or it can be removed if you wish. A nice saw set overall!
