A plate of wonderful understated elegance. This 12.25" plate is marked by the artist and features two quail in the waving grass. The detail is extraordinary, with the background consisting of tiny individual hexagons with a dot in the center of each one, and the birds having beautifully executed feathers. I believe this plate is hand painted, as the decoration seems to be under the glaze and not over it, and there are a few irregular blurbs of paint in the design if you look really closely. The back of the plate has four medallions with streaming ribbons and the artist's mark in the middle. This plate would make a dramatic statement in any room.
