| Gorgeous Ormolu adornments on the top, wrapped corners and upper portions that drape downward. Each held in place with tiny brass nails. Each corner on the top has deep blue porcelain plaques in Sevres style with heavy enamel jewels and highlighted with thick gold. The center top has two photos of a regal couple. They look very familiar but we were unable to find any reference to who they might be. The Ormolu surrounding them is fantastic with acorns on the North & South of the photos. There is a lock and key although the key is for decoration because it does not lock the box but it stays put in the lock. If the right key were found the lock is in working order. There are two back hinges in perfect working order. The box top and bottom align perfectly without gaps. The interior top area has it's original silk although a bit stained and shattered in areas. The bottom area no longer has any material but this could easily be redone. The box is 6 5/8" wide by 4 1/2" and is 3" high. There are a few marred areas to the box bottom area but nothing very large. The black enamel lacquer finish has all over scratches that do not go through to the under lying wood. The plaques are intact without chips or cracks. |
