Footed 19th Century Document/ Deeds or Glove Box By Meriden
Description:
Beautiful silver adornments are on all sides and top of this gorgeous 19th Century large Document Box.
Lovely scrolls, flora, beading, and swags are heavily applied. The top has a monogrammed cartouche area but the initials are very faint.
The interior is a deep red or burgundy velvet. It stands on four out turned feet.
The paneling appears to be Ivory but since we are not certain we are calling this French Ivory.
The front has an ornate escutcheon but the lock is missing. The box closes well and stays shut. Easy fix for a locksmith.
This has amazing silver without any missing plate.
Nice large size typical of the era for holding documents and deeds at 13 3/4" long by 4 1/4" high by 4 1/4" wide. This would make a stunning jewelry casket.
The Piece carries the Meriden Quadruple silver mark. The Meriden Silver Plate Co. was founded in 1869 in Meriden, Connecticut by Charles Casper. They were one of the original companies that joined together to form the International Silver Co. in 1898.
