Stearns Saw Sharpening Vise Wentworth Clamp On 1911

Description:
This is a nice clean used antique saw sharpening vise that is marked in cast lettering "WENTWORTH PATTERN PATENTED JAN.31.1911" on the jaw casting and also marked "E. C. STEARNS & CO. SYRACUSE N.Y. U.S.A.". It measures 10.6" jaw width, 12" from the top of the jaws to the base tip of the wing screw as shown in the 1st picture. The round wheel allow the user to pivot the vise casting on the clamp casting to angle the vise to a more comfortable filing position for the user. The vise is generally used in the position shown in the pictures. This style has the C-clamp feature to attach this vise to the side of your work table or bench. The clamp capacity of 3/4" to about 2.25" thickness of your work bench, a pretty good range. It features the cam action type movement to tighten and hold the hand saw in place for sharpening. This vise is in very good working condition, very good jaw alignment, holds saw very tightly. This design once had a round rubber strip that was glued into the one side of the vise jaw, as to help dampen the noise created during filing process, that rubber strip is missing, the slot for it is there, you can glue a new piece in if you wish. The appearance condition is good, very little surface rust noted, a few places about impossible to get back into to wipe off, so some minor surface rust is seen there, otherwise rust free, very little of the original paint is intact. The 3" diameter threaded wheel is unique on this model. We have had several of the Wentworth type vises in the past, and not seen this case steel wheel on any in the past. Unique! A very hard to find antique saw vise!
