William Rawle (1759-1836) was an influential Philadelphia citizen, a lawyer by profession, in 1791 he was appointed by George Washington as the United States attorney for the District of Pennsylvania. He was the first president of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania and authored \"A View of the Constitution of the United States\" in 1825.
