This isverynice HenrySleeper Pearson wooden surveyors compass, the only 1 I am aware of with brass sight vanes. Itmeasures 15 inches long, has a 5 3/4inch compass needle, and comes with a compass cover. Compass is in exc. working and cosmetic condition, the papercompass card is excellent, but1 of the sight vane thumb screws is a replacement as is the thumb screw for the compass staff and the compass glass looks to good to be old so must have been replaced at some point.Postage is $20.00if within the US, more If you are outside the US; no charge for careful packing.

Dorothy Greenleaf was born onJanuary 18, 1792 in Newburyport MA and died on October 5, 1842 in PortlandME. Hedied in Portland, Maine in August 1878.
He advertised in theEastern Argus and Portland Gazette (Portland ME),1810-1824, as a mathematical instrument maker and watchmaker at 9 Jones Row,Exchange Street. He worked from circa 1810 to 1875 asa silversmith and watchmaker in Portland ME with a shop at 38 Exchange in 1856.He is listed in the Portlanddirectories from 1823, which was the first one issued, to 1875, as amathematical instrument and watch maker. In 1877 he is listed as a watchand nautical instrument maker with William Senter & Company of Portland.
