1922-1928 Billy Brookes King of the Loop GatesFlying Circus Trench Coat & Helmet
The “Gates Flying Circus” was one of the mostpopular flying groups having been known to travel across every state in theunion and also for having started the “one dollar joy ride”. During the years1922 to 1928 the “Gates flying group” was known to have flown around 1 millionpassengers. “Loop King” Billy Brooks was one of the star pilots of the GatesFlying Circus.
In fact Bill Brookes, was known to have flown980 passengers in one day. In spite of all the risks and stunts,the history of barnstormingshows a fairly good safety record and serious accidentswere few and far between.
Offered is Billy Brookes personally worn 1922-1928circa leather duster jacket, matching painted identified helmet, and goggles.
The jacket measures 45 ½” x 46”. Painted on theleft side of the reverse is “King of the Loop” and a painted a red, white,& blue loop surrounding the king’s crown. The right section has “BillyBrookes” and a detailed painted plane with “Gates Flying Circus’ written on itsside. The jacket is worn and has some wear to the shoulder seams, a small tearon the back, and other small areas of damage. The painted images remain inexcellent to near mint condition.
Billy Brooke’s personal pilots’ helmet is alsoincluded and “BB” is hand painted on the front. The entire jacket is handpainted using multiple colors. The helmet remains in excellent condition. Apair of goggles is included.
