i purchased this fan a few years back, brought it home and sorta forgot about it. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago, a friend mentioned that he used to work on old electrical fans as a hobby. I introduced them, and here is what came out of the introduction.
The fan was covered in grease grime and dirt. The cord was long gone. It looked a mess. My friend has a friend who is an appliance repair man. He opened up the motor, cleaned and rewired the whole thing. According to him, the motor is ready for another 80+ years of service. New braided cloth covered wire was used to keep with the period look.
Everything else was pretty much just lots of elbow grease. The base and blades are painted a dark graphite. We debated for days if we wanted to paint the case and stem, but decided against it in favor of letting a nice natural patina reclaim it.
This thing purrs like a kitten and in my opinion looks incredible. I\'m a big fan of the industrial/steampunk look. and believe this to be a fine example.
Issues, there are two I know of. The height adjuster sticks and can be difficult at times, other times it works like a charm. Two, it does not oscillate. It\'s missing part or parts of the mechanism and we had no clue where to find a replacement.
Shipping will be via FedEx Home Delivery @ 120.00. I\'d much prefer local pick-up and would meet someone half way of a reasonable distance from Memphis.
