Up for sale is a year 1946 Longines Marine Ship Chronometer, which winds, runs and keeps good time.
The clock runs strong, keeps good time, and runs continuously for well over 52 hours after a full wind-up.
This chronometer is mounted on a scarce original Longines Mirrored Plinth Gimbal Mount, which was likely a Longines dealer display configuration.
The wind-up power reserve indicator hand has been tested, and works properly. ( For reference, the power reserve hand is a frequent point of failure in Longines Cal 21.29 chronometers and watches, due to a quite tiny and fragile planetary gear part which drives the wind-indicator hand.)
,..You can rest assured in that this chronometer has a fully tested, fully working, and properly aligned power reserve indicator.
The dial is in excellent condition. See photos,
The glass is in excellent condition with no chips and apparently no scratches.
The clock case is in good condition, with some traces of light wear and tarnish.
The wood and highly polished metal plinth base is in very good condition.
...This attractive and scarce plinth base was almost certainly a Longines dealer chronometer display configuration. In the 1940s and 50s, watch shop and jewelry shop dealers would sometimes place such a chronometer in the front window of their store to attract curious customers, and to allow passers-by to re-calibrate their watches to the \'Correct Time\' which was displayed accurately by the chronometer.
I have had this chronometer for a number of years, but it is time for it to find a new home. I have seen other examples of this same Longines 21.29 plinth base chronometer with special golden-toned numbers and hands, and this one is in probably in the best cosmetic condition of any I\'ve seen. Most I\'ve seen have listed for over $3000 to $4000 or higher, and those did not have the nicely preserved finish of this specimen.
Please refer to the photos for condition of the item to gauge cosmetic condition.
The chronometer will be well padded, with the clock packed separately, away from the mirrored wooden base to prevent damage.
Due to the delicate nature of this vintage clock, this item ships only to addresses in the U.S.A.
