1948– 1957 Automatic Electric Chicago USA 3-Slot Payphone to Restore

Anopportunity for you to enjoy restoration! Originally black butcaught up in a repaint in the mid-1950s to “sand” beige. Could\'ve ended up at C.R.C. In Chicago for an “overhaul” where a1960s network was installed along with micro switch inside, and arepaint. But they preserved history, since it still has the original escutcheon and open return slider-chute was not removed. The top is labeled:LPB 82 55. The top has the original 29S lock and gauge, channels, pointers, shroud, old dial unit and card frame. The gauge appears tobe either highly polished stainless steel or chrome plate stainless. A better original – stock shroud accompany this. I was going tostrip the top to chrome and polish but I\'ll leave that for you todecide. This unit will not be hard to return to an authentic early1950s payphone. The shroud is a little boogered up so an unused oldoriginal sand beige shroud is thrown in on the deal. The dial issluggish and sticks and needs lube.

The Vault Door you see on this phone is NOT a re-pro, but genuine old vault door. These doors arethe same as those which date back into the 1930\'s. I am not familiar with subtle details which determine exact dates; I just know that the doors were made prior to the early 1970\'s and used in Automatic Electric payphonesuntil both Northern Electric and Automatic Electric ceased making them in 1972. If you had these made in the same design as these in 2016, the cost would likely exceed $35. Old doors such as these are, can have a peak valueof $60 or more. And here they are, being offered as part of the payphone adding to the credibility of an old assembly. Over all, this is a clean and attractive payphone. A key will accompany for unlocking the top housing. Very original. Yes, this chrome 3-slot payphone is OLD: there is extremely little that is not old about it. N.E. ceased making 3-slotters in 1972; so you won\'t find any dated more recently than that. The body of this phone is old. There will not be a re-pro, replica new bottom, top, back, or coin gauge.

Where a payphone is sold as is such via , I will make observations and hope that my assistant-repairman will assist in this to seek contentment. Very strong effort is appliedto represent the phone as it is described and shown; that is what you should receive. These are not lightweight, and shipping costs be what they are don\'t seem to reduce even though gasoline prices have gone down. A certainamount of responsibility lies with you, a buyer in observing the reality of the purchase. And, again to my knowledge, all transactions have been successful so far as contentment of purchase is concerned. Thank you for acknowledgingthe conditions of sales.

The coin compartment is setup so that a money box can be installed – opening and closing. As it is now/as you see and feel it here, it is nearly as it was when it was fastenedto a telephone booth wall. I have more of these and am in pursuit of selling all. If you drop coins through, the gong and dong should sound off as originally, although I did not try it. This is a nice coin-op item althoughit doesn\'t require a coin to operate as it is now. These were made under the direction of Bell Telephone engineers and are nearly identical to Western Electric payphones. If you would like this phone to work, and would enjoytinkering with it to make it work, I can provide parts (at additional cost) a network, line-cord and diagram (instructions) for a fee as stated above.

This payphone is much like it was when in use in the 50\'s, 60\'s, 70\'s or early 1980\'s (98% of these were pulled out of the booths starting in the 1970\'s). They started poppingup in sizable quantities by 1981 in Telco graveyards. Bell prevented these from being sold to the public. I invested in quantities in the 1980\'s and sold them similarly. At this time we are one of around 3 who have 80 or moreand at least 2 of us are likely to sell nearly everything having to do with old 3 - Slotter (the phones, all parts, and related accessories). Most of mine have been sitting around since the late 70\'s and early 1980\'s. Where-asuntil spring of 2014 I saw to it that those were in usable condition. I\'ll still provide them this way but now offer them “untouched” (except where I notice a part is absent).
