This listing is for a 1970s Industrial Art Sculpture Torch Cut Steel Pipe State of Alaska Oil Pipeline. I spent 42 years in Alaska and during the Pipeline days welders who worked on the construction of this historic pipeline often used left over pipe and made these versions of the state of Alaska showing the route of the pipeline. Some were small and others like this one good size. This one measures 18 by 6 1/2 inches wide at the base by 12 3/4 inches tall. Weighs 25 pounds. Steel pegs and welders wire mounted in the steel trace the pipeline route from the start at Prudhoe Bay on the Arctic Ocean down to the port of Valdez in Prince William Sound. Drilled dots along the center of the state show the Arctic Circle. Other dots mark towns of Nome, Fairbanks and Juneau. Sculpture is in Original condition, no repairs. Nice rusty patina. Great memorabilia of one of the greatest construction projects of the world. Not many of these left out there. Old sticker on the back, hard to read, looks like from Fairbanks or Valdez.
