Typical3-Slot Chrome Payphone Pre 1957 bottom housing withslot machine – style coin return. Thechrome on this payphone is nice. It also has the older backboard. The bottom housing is 1948 – 1956 Automatic Electric Company (as stamped into the front above the door). Although there may be claims that chrome platingbegan in the 1950s, the only evidence I could find was in a 1963Telephony Magazine (as documented in the book: “Payphone History”). The design of this bottom is very like all steel Western Electricand Gray bottom housings from 1918 to 1940 and 1956 (only the namesstamped into the front were general noticeable differences). Advertisements of Automatic Electric payphones in 1957 showed thedesign change in/of this bottom from “angled” front to flat. Has whitedirection card “Local Calls” and directions in black. No newbody parts. Only the channels, some screws, the dial center sticksand the coin return slide are newer small parts. This one absent thebucket implies wither older or used in a rural area where theftproblems weren\'t as prevalent. “Coin Return” and “AutomaticElectric Compay” are stamped into the front. The chrome on thesides of the top have been influenced by weather and shows typicalblistering; the bottom has exceptionally nice chrome. Reworkedswitch hook.

The Vault Door you see on this phone is NOT a re-pro, but genuine old vault door originally equipped with lock and key. These doors are the same as those which date back into the 1930\'s. I am not familiar with subtle details which determine exact dates; I just know that the doors were made prior to the early 1970\'s and used in Automatic Electricpayphones until both Northern Electric and Automatic Electric ceased making them in 1972. If you had these made in the same design as these in 2016, the cost would likely exceed $35. Old doors such as these are, can have a peak value of $60 or more. And here they are, being offered as part of the payphone adding to the credibility of an old assembly.

I want to sell completely out! So I scraped up numerous unfinished payphone bottoms and tops, some new pieces but mostly old parts that had beensitting around here for decades. Some of these bodies were refinished. I\'ve reassembled a few using mostly old parts that also had accumulated through the years beginning in the early 1980\'s.

Where a payphone is sold as is such via , I will make observations and hope that my assistant-repairman will assist in this to seek contentment.Very strong effort is applied to represent the phone as it is described and shown; that is what you should receive. These are not lightweight, and shipping costs be what they are don\'t seem to reduce even though gasoline priceshave gone down. A certain amount of responsibility lies with you, a buyer in observing the reality of the purchase. And, again to my knowledge, all transactions have been successful so far as contentment of purchase is concerned.Thank you for acknowledging the conditions of sales.

Anything that was phone can still be a phone; with the re-arranging of wires and hooking up a line-cord (providing that the dial is okay and thehandset has functioning capsules). I have more of these and am in pursuit of selling all. If you drop coins through, the gong and dong should sound off as originally, although I did not try it. This is a nice coin-op itemalthough it doesn\'t require a coin to operate as it is now.
