A Large Opaline Blue Hobnail Glass Victorian Pendant Lamp with Brass Fittings, c.1870
This is a beautiful blue opaline glass Pendant lamp suspended by a pulley system. Three brass chains are suspended from an attractive ceiling plate decorated with Greek key banding. The chains go through the interior of the lamp to attach a scalloped collared base.
The lamp is illuminated by placing either a small oil burner or a candle in the centre of the base plate. The bottom of the base plate is finished with a loop finial which allows easy raising and lowering of the glass to either light the lamp or put it out.
The top of the glass is banded with a scalloped brass collar matching the base.
This lamp would be beautiful over a dining room table, above a round table between two chairs in a sitting room or conversation area, in an entranceway or in a garden. The simple elegance of the design and the beautiful blue colour would work well in many contemporary decor schemes.
Add a warm glow from a bygone era to your home with this beautiful lamp.
