ANTIQUE CHOCOLATE POTP.R.R. CO. JUNIATA CANONSBURG, PA.
Do not know if this is part of the Pennsylvania Railroad but it is stamped as you see above. May be very rare. Per the little that I researched, PRR took over the Juniata railroad in 1902 and at some time put in a line to Canonsburg. Could this be a commemorative item? Or one used in dining cars? Do your own research as it can not be returned if you are not sure it is what you want.
The pot is about 10\" to the top of the lid finial and 5.5\" across the bottom. There is some fine crazing that is very hard to see. The lid has a chip on the inside bottom edge and small cracks; none of this is visible since it is inside the pot. There is embossing around the turquoise blue bottom that fades into white with floral decoration. The top edge of the pot and the handle have lots of gold. The lid had blue, white, floral and gold on the finial.
A great fellow er has verified that the backstamp is from the Canonsburg Pottery Compay; the original makers mark, andJuniata is the pattern name. Canonsburg Pottery Company started in 1906.
