Circular brass medallion bas relief depictingThe Madonna/Virgin Mary and Baby Jesus with Infant Saint John the Baptist. The medallion is similar to artists active in 17th century Rome, such as Alessandro Algardi and Francois Duquesnoy etc.

-Circular Brass Medallion: 8-5/8\" visible;-Octagonal Walnut or Mahogany Frame: 3/4\" x 15-11/16\" x 16\" (glued from three pieces, two glue joints) and has eight hand chip-carved 1-5/8\" diameter flower blossoms and hand carved borderof stylized leaves.-Round Walnut or Mahogany trim: 1/4\" x 1-3/16\" x 11\" diameter. Cut from solid stock (no glue joint) and fastened with seven small nails hidden in the outer holes of the fourteen radial cross designs).WEIGHT: 4.2 lbs.PROVENANCE:
This item has been in our family of New England minister-theologians for generations. My Great-Great Grandfather was a prominent theologian and is documented to have traveled globally from 1837-1870 so he probably acquired this piece during that time period.
