Antique French Morbier "Prayer Clock" - c 1840's - Runs, keeps good time

Up for sale this week is this beautiful French Morbier Wall clock. I believe it was made in southern France around the early to mid 1800's. There is a little disagreement among the experts, but I've heard it is called a "Prayer Clock" because it strikes the hours on a loud bell, then strikes them again a few minutes later. The story goes that this was to remind the monks in the monastery where these type of clocks were found that it was time to be in prayer. I don't know how much truth there is to that, but it just sounds cool. The bell is loud enough to wake up even the sleepiest friar...

This clock measures 11 inches wide, 7 inches deep and 18 inches high from the top of the surround. With the pendulum, it measures 55 inches from the top of the surround.

The clock runs and keeps very good time. The strike side works, but is sluggish and the movement should be cleaned. I didn't use the strike in my home because it scared the dog when it went off and woke the neighbors :)

The surround is a depiction of the escape of Joseph and Mary and the baby Jesus to Egypt. It has been hand painted, but I don't think the painting is original. The surround is pressed brass. The brass hands and porcelain dial appear original and the dial has the name of theretailerwho sold the clockoriginally, and the region of France where it was made. There are no cracks or chips in the dial that I could see. The ropes for the weights are replacements, but I believe the weights to be original.

There is on this item. In addition, I'm selling this one with a money back guarantee (excluding shipping) if it is not everything I have described. Buy with confidence.

Check out the pictures and please feel free to contact me if youhave questions.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

BUYING ANANTIQUE CLOCK

Ido the very best I can to describe each item I sell and point out any flaws orissues. It is important to understand, though that what you are reading is onlymy opinion and may not agree with another person’s viewpoint.

Antiqueclocks will almost certainly have minor dings, scuffs, or other “charactertraits” that make it truly unique. Please do not expect the clock (or anyantique for that matter) to be show-room perfect.

PAYMENT

Atthis time, PayPal is the preferredpayment method will allow me to list.

Paymentis required within three days of the sale end. If there is a question aboutmaking the payment on time, check with me first to determine if otherarrangements can be made. If I don’t hear ANYTHINGfrom a buyer after three days, will open an “Unpaid Item” case.

SHIPPING

·Everyitem I list is either antique (+/- 100 years old) or vintage (Mid Century ornewer). All are usually fragile and require a great deal of care in packaging.

·Iuse new bubble wrap, and packing peanuts.

·Withmost clocks, I use new boxes and 1½ inch thick Styrofoam to strengthen the boxso it isn’t crushed. These are all expensive to purchase new, but I prefer todo it that way so I can feel confident that once the packaged item leaves myhands, it stands a good chance of surviving the gorilla attack (shippers) and arrivingat the buyer’s doorstep undamaged.

·Ido my best to estimate an appropriate fee based on my experience shippingalmost 600 clocks over the past 10 years I have been on .

·Ido not set the rates for shipping. They are determined by FedEx (which is mypreferred carrier) or by the USPS. (I always insure every package I ship.)

·Anadditional fee has been added by (10% of the shipping charge) that alsocontributes to the cost.

·Inever profit from shipping fees. In fact I often end up losing a few dollars onsome packages.

Ithink you will agree that a lot goes in to making sure that the wonderfulantique you have purchased from CTSTRUCKERgets to you in one piece. If you are willing to pay the price to insure thatyour package arrives safely, rest assured that I will do all I can make thathappen.

Onthe other hand, if you want me to throw the clock in an old used box with abunch of wadded up newspaper to save a few dollars on shipping, that won’thappen… seriously! I will not compromise on my standards.

RETURNS

Returnsare accepted in the event the item is grossly misrepresented.

response

Iprovide response as soon after I receive payment as I can, usually within acouple days. I do not wait until thebuyer leaves response for me. I believe when the buyer has paid for theitem, that part of the transaction has been completed. response for my end should come after theitem has been received. If issues arise, I ask that the buyer give me anopportunity to resolve them BEFORE response is left. If the issue is resolvedto the buyer’s satisfaction, then I would hope the response would be positive.
