From a New Hampshire estate, an exceptional period view of LAKE WINNIPESAUKEE from the famous OAKBIRCH Inn at Alton Bay.This antique OIL PAINTING on panel from circa 1910 is identified in writing on the reverse as a scene Below Oak Birch Inn in Alton New Hampshire which is onLake Winnipesaukee.13 1/2\" wide x 5 1/2\" high.The scene shows the \"Smile\", a view across the lake and between two islands to a distant peak, featuring trees, lake and hills in a misty early morning scene.Beautiful finely painted details by a talented artist who signed the front with initials MGS. It is painted on board and is a longer narrower size which would be perfect for those unusual places like over a door or in a narrow entry way or tight space. Sized about 5 1/2\" inches tall and about 13 1/2\" wide. Nice vintage condition. Board is flat and the wood is in good condition. Some surface GRIME. and a few small edge chips which would be covered by the frame. Paint surface is fine with no flaking or issues. Could benefit from a cleaning, but ok to display as it is for that antique look. Great detail! .
The OAKBIRCH Inn was a Lake Winnepesaukee landmark in Alton Bay. Built in 1903 as a hotel and restaurant, it operated as a favorite lakeside destination all the way up to 1989, when it was lost to fire.
