Antique Seismograph ADOLF FRESE Corp. Los Angeles Seismometer

I\'m offering this antique scientific instrument for parts or restoration because it is apparent it needs some repair and, not being very familiar with this device nor finding any exact and detailed information online to compare with, it may be (most likely it is) incomplete. But it a very interesting and obviously rare device. I believe because of the recording paper wrapped around its spool it is a seismometer. The recording paper is sectioned off with seven days, each divided by a 24 hours period of time and along the other axes is a scale from zero to one hundred. No reference to temperature is made anywhere on the device and although I have seen very similarly designed devices that where in fact thermometers I still believe, because of the differences, that this is a seismometer or seismograph. The spool is removable and a small geared driving device is located within but I did not notice and clock mechanism and the shaft that drives those gears extends through the bottom of the cabinet. Something else must have driven that shaft unlike the thermometer models with a wind up clock mechanism. The painted finish needs restoration. There is a broken glass panel in front and parts may be missing. I have checked and determined that I can unbolt the external devices from the cabinet without damage and so some disassembly along with very careful packing is required for shipping. A bit of information I found about the Adolf Frese Corperation from Los Angeles, California circa 1950 is offered below. I believe that the company started circa 1890\'s and were producing devices like this as early as the beginning of the twentieth century though I am not sure how old this item is. The only clue might be the model number from the metal tag - it reads C157. Overall length as shown is 23 inches, cabinet length is 16 inch, Width is 6-1/2 inch and its height is 9 inches. All metal construction. It\'s possible this instrument was manufactured in Germany for Adolf Frese. I have not determined that - just a possibility extracted from the companies known business trend and history.
