This is a Flemish gothic antique nun\'s cross dated the 25th of March, 1881 with the engraved words in French. One side features a sacred heart with a sword through it and the other has a sacred heart with a cross above it and it\'s wrapped in thorns. The name is E Piron, and the church I Berleghem which is the archaic spelling of the Flemish village Beerlegem. It also has Congregation (abbreviated) of St. Vierge which is possibly the convent the nun was part of. The silver has the most amazing surface - it\'s hard to describe but it\'s from all the years of being held and touched. It has definite wear but nothing that would be considered damage.
The cross measures 1 1/4 inches wide by just a tiny bit under 2 1/4 inches tall, not including the bail. The figaro chain is 20 inches long, marked sterling on the clasp and is vintage. This is an authentic and genuine nun\'s cross, and a wonderful piece of history.
