This item comes from an estate liquidation project - it is definitely a mid-century piece. All patina and condition is original; it has not been cleaned or touched up in any way.
I have here an extraordinarily unique lamp. This piece started out its life as a very heavy cast iron locomotive headlight and has since been repurposed into an interior lamp. I\'ve included 2 photos that show what this piece looked like as a locomotive headlight. It is solid and extremely heavy weighing in at 30 lbs. It measures 11\" wide, 19\" tall and 9\" deep. It is black cast iron with copper embellishments. The letters \"ETAT\" appear on the side of the casing. These letters were in the casting mold so they\'re an actual part of the casing. The chimney on top is a combination of iron and copper and it\'s hinged so it flips open. When looking straight at the lamp it also has a copper hinge at the upper right so the main lens opens up. The main lens is a pane of real glass. Inside is a light bulb fixture that can be taken out (see pics).
Both lights - the one on top and the main lamp - work fine. There\'s a large mounting bracket on the back of the piece so it can be hung on the wall. The bracket is an original feature; not an addition put there by the folk artist. It also has a felt bottom so it can be used on a furniture surface without damaging or scratching.
This is an ultra-cool, ultra-unique item; an ideal piece for any locomotive or train buff. It looks amazing when lit up. It is extremely heavy which is reflected in shipping charges. I send all packages USPS. Priority is WAY expensive for an item of this weight. Retail ground is more reasonable but still pretty expensive. Media mail is reasonable but delivery time is pretty lengthy. If you are the buyer, we will work together on whatever delivery option you choose.
