COLD STEEL RECON SCOUT San Mai III VG1 NIB New in Box discontinued Hattori Japan:
$391.65

This a New in Box Cold Steel Recon Scout San Mai III knife. This is not the poorer qualityTiawanese flat ground blade. This is made by Ichiro Hattori in Seki Japan and is the same blade and grind as the Fallkniven Northernlight series, that is also made by Hattori. It is only slightly shorter blade length then the Odin Model so it is the cousin of the Thor, Odin, Njord and Frey models with only a different handle matterial (Kraton instead of stacked Leather). Hattori has made most of the finest blades of our time, from the Original SOG Bowies S1 to the Cold Steel Master and Magnum Tantos, to other makes such as, Kershaw,Al Mar, Katz early Browning, Junglee, Gryphon Fallkniven and more. He is the inventor and maker of the most popular skelatinized diving knife sold by Tekna in the 1980\'s. Unfortunatly the Sun is setting on this industry in Seki as the strong Yen, Aging work force and general move to lower quality mass produced products moves to Tiawan and China. Next month Kinryu Corporation stops production of knives after 50 years. Kinryu made most of the finest SOG and Cold Steel Japanese knives of the 80s 90s and early 2000s.Even Hattori made Cold Steel knives are only available periodically now as production slows. This industry is in terminal decline and the fine knives from Japan will be gone forever in the near future, a sad event for knife collectors and users globally.
Unlike the current Tiawanese Recon Scout with a machine flate ground beveled edge this has a hand ground hama-guri Ba or convex edge. This type of edge can only be produced by hand and can be up to 400 percent stronger than conventional edges, allowing it to crash through bone and harder materials without folding or chipping. This is the edge used on traditional Japanese swords and knives, which differentiates traditional swords from modern interpretations, and only Hattori offers production knives with this edge. You have to go to custom or semi custom knife makers to get this important feature. This knife has the following characteristicsBlade length 71/2\"thickness at spine 5/16\"Overall length 12 1/2\"
Condition: Knife is new, box has some wear
