HOW WE GRADE BOOKS/COMIC BOOKS:

* We go through EACH AND EVERY PAGE of our books and comic books and conservatively grade them.
* We follow the grading criteria as set forth in the OVERSTREET COMIC BOOK PRICE GUIDE, the industry standard in the comic book industry.
* We understand that grading a comic book can be quite subjective, and if you disagree with our grading, we offer a 60 DAY HASSLE-FREE RETURN POLICY.

GRADING CRITERIA:

MINT (MT) = 9.5 to 9.9/10.0 (Overstreet 98-100/100):

(A) Almost perfect in every way, like new (not a single flaw anywhere on the book/comic book with the exception of subtle bindery or printing defects).

* Cover = Flat, centered, and secure with no surface wear;

* Inks = bright with high reflectivity; corners square and sharp;

* Staples = centered and clean.

* Paper = Supple and fresh;

* Spine = Tight and flat.

* Comics are VERY RARE in MINT. Think "hot off the presses." There are those who would argue that, once a comic has hit the newsstand, it is no longer MINT.

NEAR MINT (NM) = 9.0-9.5/10.0 (Overstreet 90-97/100/100):

(A) Overall, the condition of this book/comic book is beautiful.

* Cover = flat, centered, and secure with no surface wear.

* Inks = bright with high reflectivity and a minimum of fading.

* Corners = square and sharp with only slight blunting.

* Staples = centered and clean.

* Paper = supple and like new.

* Spine = tight and flat.

(B) Defects allowed with this grade = Autographs.

* Unless stated in the item description, all of these books/comic books with this grade have no autographs.

(C) Defects allowed with this grade if nominal = Corner bends; spine stress marks; page tips nicked during production; slight browning if comic is older; off-center printing; cover scuff marks.

* Nominal is defined as "barely noticeable", and that any defect--even if allowed--will drop the book a full grade if extreme.

* Unless stated in the item description, all of these books/comic books with this grade have very few, if any, of the above defects.

(D) Defects not allowed with this grade = Tears; writing; rubber stamps; tape; missing pieces; fingerprints; water stains; browning if comic is newer; spine roll.

* Unless stated in the item description, all of these books/comic books with this grade have none of the above defects.

(E) Plus or Minus Signs (ex. NM+ or NM-) = Widely used to grade books a bit above or below one of the basic grades.

VERY FINE (VF) = 8.0-8.9/10.0 (Overstreet 75-89/100):

(A) Overall, excellent book/comic book with outstanding eye appeal.

* Cover = sharp, bright, and clean.

* Inks = bright with high reflectivity and a minimum of fading.

* Corners = square and sharp with some visible blunting.

* Staples = centered and clean.

* Paper = supple with minor off-white to yellowish discoloration.

* Spine = minor spine wear.

(B) Defects allowed with this grade = Autographs.

* Unless stated in the item description, all of these books/comic books with this grade have no autographs.

(C) Defects allowed with this grade if nominal = Minor tears (1/8 inch); corner bends; spine stress marks; slightly loose staples; page tips nicked during production; slight browning if comic is older; off-center printing; cover scuff marks.

* Nominal is defined as "barely noticeable", and that any defect--even if allowed--will drop the book a full grade if extreme.

* Unless stated in the item description, all of these books/comic books with this grade have very few, if any, of the above defects.

(D) Defects not allowed with this grade = Writing; rubber stamps; tape; missing pieces; fingerprints; water stains; browning if comic is newer; spine roll.

* Unless stated in the item description, all of these books/comic books with this grade have none of the above defects.

(E) Plus or Minus Signs (ex. VF+ or VF-) = Widely used to grade books a bit above or below one of the basic grades.

FINE (FN) = 7.0-7.9/10.0 (Overstreet 55-74/100):

(A) An above average copy with attractive appearance that shows some wear. The item has been read a few times and handled with moderate care. This item is still a highly desirable collectible.

* Cover = Relatively flat, clean, and glossy with small creases and a few small edge tears; minimal soiling.

* Inks = Beginning to show a significant reduction in reflectivity.

* Corners = lightly worn corners.

* Staples = Light staple rust but not stain on surrounding areas.

* Paper = Minor yellowing/tanning of interior pages; no more than a few tiny paper flakes missing; small tears repaired on blank reverse side are generally acceptable if the front image is not badly affected.

* Spine = Light spine wear; minor surface wear; slight crease.

(B) Defects allowed with this grade = Autographs; international or Stars & Stripes stamps.

* Unless stated in the item description, all of these books/comic books with this grade have no autographs

* Nominal is defined as "barely noticeable", and that any defect--even if allowed--will drop the book a full grade if extreme.

* Unless stated in the item description, all of these books/comic books with this grade have very few, if any, of the above defects.

(D) Defects not allowed with this grade = Tape; water stains.

* Unless stated in the item description, all of these books/comic books with this grade have none of the above defects.

(E) Plus or Minus Signs (ex. FN+ or FN-) = Widely used to grade books a bit above or below one of the basic grades.

VERY GOOD (VG) = 6.0 to 6.9/10.0 (Overstreet 35-54/100):

(A) An above-average but well used book/comic book. A comic in this grade shows some moderate wear; eye appeal is somewhat reduced because of the accumulation of defects. The comic or book is still a desirable copy because it has been handled with some care.

* Cover = One or two markings on cover may be present. Cover shows moderate to significant wear and may be loose but not completely detached. Minor to moderate staining, discoloration, and/or foxing may be present.

* Inks = Inks have major to extreme reduction in reflectivity. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present.

* Corners = Corners may be noticeably blunted or abrated.

* Staples = Staples show minor discoloration. An accumulation of minor stable tears and an accumulation of minor stress lines may be present.

* Paper = Paper is brown to tan with no signs of brittleness. May have the faintest trace of an acidic odor. Centerfold may be loose but no detached. Minor tears may also be present.

* Spine = A minor to moderate spine roll is allowed. A spine split of up to 1/2" may be present.

(B) Defects allowed with this grade = Autographs; several minor tears or one major tear; corner bends; spine stress marks; staples loose but fully joined with no tearing; international, Stars & Stripes, and store stamps; missing pieces if smaller than postage stamp; fingerprints; browning but not brittle; off-center printing.

(C) Defects allowed if nominal = Price neatly penciled in interior or on cover; small single-drop water stain; spine roll; cover folds but not bent in half; cover scuff marks.

* Nominal is defined as "barely noticeable", and that any defect--even if allowed--will drop the book a full grade if extreme.

* Unless stated in the item description, all of these books/comic books with this grade have very few, if any, of the above defects.

(D) Defects not allowed with this grade = Tape.

* Unless stated in the item description, all of these books/comic books with this grade have none of the above defects.

(E) Plus or Minus Signs (ex. VG+ or VG-) = Widely used to grade books a bit above or below one of the basic grades.

GOOD (GD) = 5.0 to 5.9/10.0 (Overstreet 15-34/100):

(A) The book/comic book shows substantial wear; often considered a "reading copy."

* Cover = Cover shows significant wear and may even be detached at one or more staples. Cover reflectivity is low and in some cases completely absent. Book length creases and dimples may be present. The largest piece allowed missing from the front or back cover is usually a 1/2" triangle or a 1/4" square.

* Inks = Inks have major to extreme reduction in reflectivity. In some cases, the inks on the pages are faint. Stamped, minor markings, or inked arrival dates are usually present.

* Corners = Rounded corners are visible and are more common.

* Staples = Staples may be degraded, replaced or missing. Moderate staple tears and stress lines may be present, as well as rust migration.

* Paper = Paper is brown and aged, but not brittle. Moderate soiling, staining, discoloration and foxing may be present. Centerfold may be loose or detached. Moderate interior tears may be present.

* Unless stated in the item description, all of these books/comic books with this grade have no autographs

(C) Defects allowed with this grade if nominal = Spine tears (1/4 inch); moderate taping; moderate water stains.

* Nominal is defined as "barely noticeable", and that any defect--even if allowed--will drop the book a full grade if extreme.

(D) Defects not allowed with this grade = None.

(E) Plus or Minus Signs (ex. GD+ or GD-) = Widely used to grade books/comic books a bit above or below one of the basic grades.

* Books/Comic books molested in bizarre rituals are POOR.

DEFECTS ALLOWED = Anything short of book being torn in half.

ALLOWED IF NOMINAL = All.

DEFECTS NOT ALLOWED = None.

COVERLESS = Many comics have lost their covers yet the interiors are still intact. There is demand for these books if they are valuable older books, esp. for the purposes of historical preservation.
