Florida Bungalow just aquired the collection of Michele Mancini, author of the popular book \"Fabulous Fabrics of the 30\'s 40\'s & 50\'s\"...Michele is the original founder of Full Swing Fabrics...from her historic storefront and home on iconic Thames Street in Newport Rhode Island...I was honored to move mountains when Michele contacted me more than a year ago to let me know she was interested in selling her beloved archived collection...and with a couple airline flights and a key to a uhaul I traveled to Newport and hauled a truck load of period fabrics dating back to the 1920\'s and some even earlier...mostly tropical and cottage prints from the 30\'s 40\'s and 50\'s...bolts and alotta chatch! It is an honor to know other fellow old vintage cotton souls like myself...and especially connect with them...there are so few of us on this planet...so to actually have the opportunity to see Michele and her collection, her works and her many editorials in magazines across the country...so it is with good fortune and gratefulness that over the coming days, weeks, months and years, I will be introducing many of Michele\'s precious stash that was just released from her vintage period fabric time capsule...into the loving care of my Florida Bungalow!

When it comes to tropical birds barkcloth...there really is nothing more collectible in the barkcloth world...anyone who knows me will tell you that when it comes to my most prized fabrics...the egret and swirl really take the cake...something speaks to me about this pattern...its just quirky and fun...a pattern initially very popular in the hotel industry in places like South Beach and California lobby bars...with exclusive designers using it for residential homes by the mid 40\'s..Ive owned every colorway of this pattern...I love the BLACK and TEAL background egrets...very deco...handsome...stylish and crazy fabulous...chartreuse yellow...lemon yellow...rapsberry...pink...chocolate brown...with a fabulous periwinkle blue beak and feet...LOVE the feet :) I have a bird foot fetish it seems! This remnant sized piece measures 21 x 21 inches square...so its a nice size to pack a powerful punch and make quite a statement...search for shop for a companion piece so you can make a collage of beautiful pillows for your sofa or chair...I love my sofa to have robust powerful pillows...it really speaks for who I am...what I love...what I am about...and what warms my heart...people know immediately when they walk into my home that this is a home of an old soul...what better way to fabulously represent yourself! old egret tropical bird designs were paramount in the design schemes of Miami Beach hotels...looking to brand themselves the most innovative and fabulous...a destination unparalelled by no where else on earth...embracing a movement of art deco and modernism...and incorporating it into a nicely wrapped package called \"VACATION\"...the best way for textile manufacturers and designers to get their fabric patterns out in the public square to peek customer interest...and it was quite effective...it created a movement around the nation of tropical styles as a trend to a room...many recreating the tropics of Miami Beach in living rooms, bedrooms and converted basement tiki bars even in the middle of america...and what better way to send that tropical message than with something so rare as the \"Egrets & Swirl\" pattern...aptly named that by your\'s truly...and apparently it stuck as throughout the world this pattern is referred to as exactly that...but in actuality it is a Spectrum Fabric and didn\'t actually have a formal name...which I always thought such a shame for its profound and dramatic birds...it deserved a name! :)
