This is a large single sided Masonite menu board advertising sign
for Dingo Diner. It measures 71-7/8” wide, 23” tall, and 1/8”
thick. I’m not sure if it is vintage, or made to look that way, so please
look at the photos and decide for yourself. Whatever its age, this is a
GREAT looking piece that has been displayed in our kitchen area for many years
and gets a LOT of comments when friends come over. It is large and in
charge, as the saying goes. Six feet wide and nearly 2 feet tall.
It is Masonite and has a great graphic of a chef on the left side with menu
items and changeable price windows, by means of chalkboard material where you
write the prices. The entire surface of the sign appears to have grease
stains on it. An attempt to do a cursory cleaning resulted in the
“stains” being unable to be removed, so I’m guessing they are either
permanently attached to the surface or they are man-made. As I mentioned,
I’m not sure of the age of this so it MAY have been constructed as a
prop. On the backside, there are stenciled letters saying “HEAVEN or LAS
VEGAS” and there are handwritten numbers “195-526X” in two spots, making be
think this was used as a movie/television prop at some time. We acquired
it in a Las Vegas sale, so that helps to explain the Las Vegas lettering on
the back. Honestly, we have no idea! But that bottom line is that
it looks GREAT and displayed VERY WELL, that is all that mattered to us.
In addition to the chef and name graphics, the food selections include some
unique choices! You can choose the Steak Pies, Steak and Kidney, Curry, Pasties
with Peas, Sausage Rolls, Chiko Rolls, Salmon Rolls, Scotch Eggs, among
others. And in the upper right corner, don’t forget Big Bill’s Delicious
Pies! Each column of menu items has a strip of chalkboard material to its
right to allow you to write in the price of each. This is a VERY cool
looking sign. This is in very nice shape with some minor scuffs, nicks,
and scratches, mainly along the edges. None are real bad, though, and are
almost indetectable with the other sign graphics, coloring, and
lettering. It has holes along the top and bottom that allow it to be
attached to a wall. The colors are all nice, only dulled by the grease
stains on top of them! Although short of perfect, this is a VERY cool
advertising sign that is in very nice shape and displays very well. This
will make a great addition to any advertising, diner, or kitchen themed
collection!
