East German Pioneer (CombatEngineer) Officer Cased Dagger Set Original as issued and in used condition, purchased east of theThuringerstat Gate, DDR on 9 OCT 1989. Duringthisperiod, I was assigned to\"I Co/227 AVN\", 3rd ArmoredDivision. It was a busy time in the Hanau-Erlensee area where I worked atFliegerhorst (Hanau US Army Airfield). During the first week of OCT 1989we were finally allowed to travel east of Fulda into the \"their\"area. On 9 OCT 1989, we loaded up our Dodge Van and crossed the DDR (EastGerman)/FRG border at the Thuringerstat Gate. A few klik\'s inside westopped at a Flohmarkt near an East German Military base which housed SovietArmy personnel. We bought some souvenirsto include this dagger (small sword) . INCLUDED IS A MILITARY MEDAL THAT CAME WITH THE SET!!
Well that was 28 years ago, and now it’s time to down size.

ADDED INFORMATION 15 DEC 2017 AT 14:06 EASTERN: Good afternoon, What you have there is actually a General of Border Troops (due to the color of the backing of the hanging straps). There should be a compass insignia on the end of the pommel. Officer daggers except for naval, were silver and stippled on the end of the pommel. It looks to be a completely text book example. Not sure about the
