Edison Recorder (Recording Reproducer), 100+ Years Old, All-Original with box For Sale

Here I am pleased to offer an original Edison recorder, also known as a recording reproducer. These enabled the owners of Edison phonographs a century ago to record themselves on blank Edison wax cylinders, which could then be played back on the same phonograph using a regular Edison reproducer. This was a very popular form of home entertainment in the early 1900’s – I own several home-recorded Edison cylinders, and you can tell it really made their Saturday night special – but one that was out of reach to all but a few fortunate citizens, as these recorders were not included as standard equipment with Edison phonographs, and were quite expensive to purchase separately. I have not had an opportunity to test them out, as I have never owned any blank Edison cylinders (they do come up on frequently, though), but have inspected them thoroughly, and they are solid. These reproducers are rare, and it’s even rarer to find them in such condition, as many were made of pot metal and typically aged very poorly, swelling, warping and eventually crumbling. That is not the case with this one, as you can see. The recorder still has its original stylus. I have taken a photo of the stylus bar through a magnifying glass for detail. It also still has its original box! The box itself is in fair condition, but complete. This is a really neat piece of history, and though I had once hoped to acquire some blank cylinders someday, I am out of space and have decided, instead, to offer it to another dedicated collector as-is, in completely original condition. Best of all, I’m offering this fascinating phonographic artifact with – high buyer takes it!
I will ship this Edison recorder ONLY within the United States. If you live elsewhere and are interested in it, please contact me BEFORE offerding so we can discuss the shipping charges, which can be very expensive outside the U.S. I will be shipping the phonograph and horn separately, to insure that the latter arrives intact and undamaged. I ship once a week (whenever possible). Having received, over the years, some items that did not survive shipping, I always take care to pack very carefully. If you prefer, I will be happy to drop it off at a nearby UPS store and have it professionally packed and shipped at your expense. I reserve the right to raise or lower the shipping charges should they prove to be significantly different than those determined by the shipping calculator.
