The former Governor of Hawaii pens his name in black ink on this 3½x2 card
Signature: “John A. Burns”, in black ink, 3½x2. John Anthony Burns (1909-1975) attended the University of Hawaii in 1930 and 1931. He then became a police officer for the city and county of Honolulu (1934-1945). Balance his new job as a real estate agent with a budding career in politics, Burns went on to serve as chairman of the Traffic Safety Commission for Honolulu (1950-1954). From 1951 to 1955 he was the Honolulu Civil Defense Administrator.  He also served as the chairman of the Honolulu County Democratic Committee (1948-1952). Burns was elected to the 85th Congress, and to the 86th Congress when Hawaii became a state in 1959. He ran for Governor of Hawaii, but was unsuccessful (1959). Undeterred, Burns ran again for governor and was elected in 1962. He was reelected to the post in 1966 and 1970. Top edge slightly ragged. Paper clip indentation extending outward from left edge, not affecting signature. Otherwise, fine condition.See more material from these signers:GOVERNOR JOHN A.
