KAMEN RIDER KANIBABURA KAIJIN BANDAI - JAPAN VINTAGE CA. 1971. Personal collection from my childhood spent in Japan. ‘Shōoka’ translates as ‘Shocker,’ an evil organisation whose influence stretches to the corners of the world. The secret base is located in a remote area in Japan. Shocker is truly a terrifying organisation which plans to alter humans in countries all over the world and use them as pawns for global domination! Now, one can appreciate the task that Kamen Rider is faced with. Which each episode a new ‘Kaijin’ or ‘Monster Being’ was introduced. Each Kaijin was imbued with special traits which made them a challenge to deal with. Location: Hokkaido, Japan’s most northerly main island: scientists are puzzled over unusual tsunami activity triggered by undersea earthquakes. Seismic data is usually consulted but the local seismometers are being mysteriously sabotaged - without these readings the epicenters cannot be determined. Equally strange is the deactivation of coastal power stations that energise the seismic monitors. Later, Shocker reveals its plans to detonate large underwater bombs more powerful than nuclear explosions to cause destructive tsunami and bring Japan to its knees! In this episode, Kanibabura a crab Kaijin is Shocker’s chosen henchman. Kanibabura’s special talents was the use of his menacing claw as a bludgeoning device or emitting noxious bubbles from his mouth that dematerialised any human upon contact! Very nasty business. During the climactic fight scene Kanibabura sprays his toxic froth onto Kamen Rider temporarily blinding him - though his sight was partially compromised, Kamen Rider delivers a ‘Rider Punch!’ which launches Kanibabura backwards onto the rocks and he expodes meeting his demise. Kanibabura is complete with his Shocker belt and boots. Head, arms and legs are articulated. Approximate measurements; 10” (25.4cm) x 5 1/2” (13.97cm) in arm span. This and other Kamen Rider figures I will be listing have been played with and exhibit wear consistent with their 49 year age. Not many ‘Sofubi’ survive from this era and this is a rare opportunity to add original vintage Kamen Rider pieces to one’s collection. Sofubi’ is the Japanese term for ‘Soft Vinyl’ - ‘Sofu’ = Soft + ‘bi’ (as in bee) =vinyl. ‘Bi’ is the shortened form of ‘binīru’ or vinyl. Shipped with USPS Parcel Select Ground domestically or a ’s Global Shipping Programme internationally.
