KAMEN RIDER MUSASABĪDORU KAIJIN BANDAI SOFUBI - JAPAN VINTAGE CA. 1971. Personal collection from my childhood spent in Japan. ‘Shōoka’ translates as ‘Shocker,’ an evil organisation whose influence stretches to all corners of the world. The secret base is located in a remote area in Japan. Shocker is truly a terrifying organisation which plans to alter humans in countries all over the world and use them as pawns for global domination! Now, one can fully appreciate the task Kamen Rider is faced with. With each episode a new ‘Kaijin’ or ‘Monster Being’ was introduced. Each Kaijin was imbued with special traits which made them a challenge to deal with. The exposition in this episode explains that Japanese scientists have invented a super fuel, a mere 100cc launches a substantial rocket in their experiments. Shocker learning of this super fuel wants the remaining 700cc (equivalent to a kiloton in TNT) to turn Sapporo into a vast wasteland! Shocker creates Musasabīdoru, a mutant flying squirrel Kaijin able to jump a 100 meters and glide for 200 meters. In flight, the supersonic speeds Musasabīdoru attains creates slipstreams strong enough to cause a momentary vacumn to form in the human body which tears apart the internal organs - yes, pretty grizzly. In the third act a fight scene ensues and we find Musasabīdoru and Shocker combatants battling Kamen Rider. The attaché case containing the explosives is bandied about and in the end Musasabīdoru receives a ‘Rider Kick!’ and explodes. Musasabīdoru is complete with his Shocker belt and as this character was completely furry he did not wear boots. Head, arms and legs are articulated. Approximate measurements; 9” (22.86cm.) in height x 6” (15.24cm.) in arm span. There is a mis-mould in the form of a small hole beneath this figure’s lower lip - the molten vinyl perhaps did not flow correctly or possessed an air bubble whilst being vacumn-moulded. This and other Kamen Rider figures I will be listing have been played with and exhibit wear consistent with their 49 year age. Not many ‘Sofubi’ survive from this era and this a rare opportunity to add original vintage Kamen Rider pieces to one’s collection. ‘Sofubi’ is the Japanese term for ‘Soft Vinyl’ - ‘Sofu = Soft + bi (as in bee) = vinyl. ‘Bi’ is the shortened version of ‘binīru’ or vinyl. Shipped with USPS Parcel Select Ground domestically and ’s Global Shipping Programme internationally.
