M139. Carriage Clock, Grande Sonnerie, with calendar, alarm and case VERY NICE.:
$2350.00

  • What we have here is a French carriage clock, circa late 1800\'s. It is over-sized, being 8 1/2\" to the top of the bail (see photo with tape measure, The tape measure is not included in this sale). It has subsidiary functions consisting of month, day and alarm which are all currently functioning correctly.
..the dial.. The dial is porcelain an shows no hairlines looking through the front glass. If you look closely, there is a small scratch between the numeral V and the center arbor. It may not show in the photo and does not show from a foot away in person. The minute hand matches the hour hand in style but is a lighter blue. The subsidiary dial hands all match.
..the case.. The brass case has been polished over the years and any original gilding is gone from the flat surfaces. The case is parcel silvered, mostly on the vertical members and back door. The bail is still tight and the case does not have any unusual dents nor deep dings. The case could do with polishing.
..the glass..The glass is not cracked nor unusually scratched. There is a chip on the top right corner of the back door (see photo close-up). There is a tiny chip on the bottom right corner of the door and the bottom left corner of the front glass. You have to bee looking for these two to spot them, i.e., picky. The left glass rattles a bit.
..the movement..The lever platform retains some of its silvering (although it does not appear to in the photo) and the movement itself is clean in appearance. I have not taken the movement out of the case and done any close inspection. I do notice someone has soldered the alarm hand arm back on its collet. No idea when this clock was last serviced.
..current operating condition..Its runs briskly and lasts over ten days on one wind and is still chiming and striking correctly after that time. The repeat function works as does the day, month and alarm. With the regulator centered as show in the photo, the clock gained two minutes during the 10-day run period with any attempt to regulate it. How the grand sonnerie works on this clock is that at the 1/4 hours it announces the hour first then the corresponding bim-bam for each quarter. At the hour, it strikes the hour without any bim-bam. How the petit sonnerie works on this clock is you get the correct bim-bam (with no hour) on the quarters and the hour at the hour without any bim-bam. On silent, there is no chime nor strike.
..the carrying case..The case is in generally nice condition. The leather has faded brown, there are a few scuffs; the strap is still attached. The glass slide is missing, the front leather slide is present. The winding key is an old one. It has a different serial number than the clock, however, it fits in the case and it works.
NOTE: The clock works fine here. I am not guaranteeing it will work if it is shipped to you as I have no control over the shippers . I am a careful packer, but this is no guarantee. I have shipped carriage clocks before and never had an issue upon receipt, Maybe I was lucky.

    Questions Welcome
NOTE: This item is being sold \"as is\" even though it is functioning properly. Take a look at the photos. I do my best to describe the obvious issues;I cannot spot everything. Ask questions. Just because some function is operating properly now does not mean it will be an hour, week or month from now.
