MAD MAGAZINE #1, 2, 3, 4 (EC, 1952-3) featuring the work of Harvey Kurtzman, Jack Davis, Wally Wood, John Severin & others. The first four issues of the legendary satirical humor comic book magazine. #1 is a well-worn borderline fragile G+- that is still startlingly attractive. Cover bright & sharp despite some small dings & spots of soiling. Bumps & chips to corners & edges; additional wear along spine including a few stress creases, chip of roughly one inch at bottom, & a slight spine roll. Back cover shows moderate soiling, as does the fore-edge & some inside margins. Otherwise the interior, tho tanned, is flat & clean throughout. Staples with a bit of rust but cover and centerfold attached.#2 is a much nicer G/VG with fewer flaws: Some wear & slight wrinkles to cover, Bumps & chips to corners, edges & spine which also shows a very slight roll. Some additional minor soiling to back cover. Despite a rare occasional spot in the margins the interior, tho tanned, is flat, solid & clean throughout. Centerfold detached at lower staple.#3 is back in G territory with heavier wear visible at edges, including small closed tears at fore-edge of front & back cover & last page, which is detached. First page missing. Cover is still fairly bright & sharp in spite of the occasional tiny stain. Interior tanned & otherwise flat & clean throughout. Centerfold detached at bottom staple.#4 also in the G/VG range with a fairly sharp cover. Increased tanning apparent at edges, & some warping due to water damage can be detected throughout the book on its top half. Interior otherwise flat, tight & clean throughout.
