This cheerful and pretty scarce Mettlach stein stands 6.25" high to the top of the inlaid lid, by 3.75" in diameter. This stein has a classic form, with a ‘Carnival’ motif designed by Heinrich Schlitt. It is a one-quarter liter stein. This stein is shape #2778, which is entitled "Carnival", in the references. It has an etched surface and the scene is beautifully presented in a rainbow of rich colors and finished to a nice combination of matte and glossy glazes. The scene depicts Carnival-goers drinking and making merry in a playful and cheerful atmosphere, not unlike scenes from Mardi Gras in New Orleans. This stein has its original pewter thumblift, and inlaid lid, which is ornately etched with a crest or shield housing three happy jesters. This stein, signed by Schlitt, number 2778, has all the hallmarks of Mettlach steins as can be seen in the photos, with a date of \'04\', for 1904. This very hard-to-find stein is in mint condition, and it makes a very cheerful presentation!
