Malcolm Forbes Collection, a Framed Pair of White Gloves and Police Medals For Sale

This is an interesting presentation set from the collection of the late Malcolm Forbes. The slanted front frame (perfect for table-top display) contains a pair of white knitted gloves and a pair of British medals. They frame also has a typed label that reads, “Presented to J. Broadwood Esq. J.P. Chairman of the Whitehill Bench, to commemorate ‘NO CRIME’ on July 3rd. 1944, the first occasion since the Bench was founded in 1905, by his sincere friends / (s) A.C. Southern S/C. Commander / H.J.S.C. / (s) P. F. King /S/Inspector / H.J.S.C..” White gloves were traditionally given to British judges when they presided over an assize at which no prisoner was capitally convicted. Such cases were commonly referred to as a maiden assize. The two medals are the British Police (Special Constabulary) Long Service Medal with a “Long Service 1935” bar (named to John Broadwood) and a World War II Defence Medal (unnamed). The typed label is signed by two officers from “H.J.S.C.” which I believe to be the Hampshire Joint Special Constabulary. The frame measures 11 inches wide 11 1/2inches high and 2 inches deep at the base. The frame can sit on a table or desk, or, hang on the wall. A great piece from the collection of one of the world’s greatest collectors. Fine antique condition.
