NEAT RUSSIAN PAPER MACHE BOX W/ FROG PRINCE PAINTING ON LID
Presented is an interesting, hand painted Russian paper mache box made post revolution. This piece made between the 1950s and the 1980s. The top is painted with a scene of a young man with bow in hand sitting above a crowned frog that has an arrow sticking through his head. This is obviously a scene from Russian folklore, some sort of frog prince tale. The colors of the boy’s clothes are vibrant and there are iridescent portions to the painting. The box is hinged and the sides have a small gilt band of design. The interior of the box is painted red.
There is a faint signature on the painted lid.
This piece is in excellent overall condition. There is a small chip to the bottom right hand corner of the lid but this is hardly noticeable. There are no other damages and no repairs.
The box measures 3 1/8 by 4 1/4 inches, is 1 1/8 inches tall and weighs 120 grams or 4.2 ounces.
