Up for sale is anextremely RARE opportunity to own all ALL SIX (6) of the German WWIIMesserschmitt ME-262 jet fighter replicas manufactured by Armour (C.D.C. S.r.l.of Milano, Italy) prior to their buyout by The Franklin Mint in late 2001. The boxes are in fantastic condition (they’vebeen in storage for several years) and the models have never been out of theirrespective boxes!! Why shop for these individually when you could own them all at once!!

These models are from myfather’s estate. He loved the ME-262 andwould admire them in the boxes, but never took them out! I’d love to keep them, but have so many modelsthat I can’t even begin to display what I inherited and currently own. There’s no better opportunity to own thewhole set of these Collection Armour ME-262’s than now!

Some history on what happenedCollection Armour of Milan, Italy from the Diecast Aircraft Forum on theinternet and Reeves International who were the importers of The “CollectionArmour”:

Dear Diecast Hobbies Customer,

Yesterday (Monday, 12/3/2001) we wereinformed by Reeves International, the USA supplier of the Collection ArmourAviation die-cast aircraft collectible line, that Collection Armour has been purchasedby The Franklin Mint. The Collection Armour line of highly detailed die-cast militaryaircraft will no longer be produced and the Collection Armour name willretired. Needless to say this came as a complete surprise. EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY, any pre-order andspecial orders that you may have with us for Armour Collection Aircraft will becancelled December 31, 2001 if we cannot fill them before that time. We have alarge order placed for more Armour die-cast planes, but are not sure as toexactly what items we will be receiving since so many have been sold out. Thisdoes not impact items that are currently listed as in stock on our website. Wewill update our website as items go out of stock. Please note the remaining newrelease items will be available, these include the 1:48 scale B-25s and F6FHellcats, but only 2 of the Huey Helicopters, 98188 and 98166 will beavailable. If you have any of the above mentioned models on pre-order with us,you should get them sometime late December.

Once we sell out, that is it. Nomore Armour. According to a topexecutive we spoke with at Reeves International, they unsuccessfully attemptedto purchase Armour Collection from C.D.C. of Milan, Italy, the owners ofArmour, so Collection Armour would still be available to its loyal following.Collection Armour was created in 1996 and had been highly successful since itsintroduction to the die-cast aviation collectible market, offering over 200models in over 23 countries. Its short lived history and contribution to theworld of die-cast model collecting and military aviation model collecting willhave an everlasting positive impact.
It is rumored that The Franklin Mint will completely repackage the Armour lineand sell them in limited quantities released on specific dates via their owndistribution channels, and the current line of Armour dealers is not amongthose channels. This is only what we have heard and may differ from TheFranklin Mint’s actual plans. Also, we do not know what planes will be offered.

As a result, Collection ArmourMilitary Aviation Die-cast collectibles will more than likely become a verypopular item for collectors to own, due to their limited lifespan in themarketplace and superior quality.

We appreciate your support and lookforward to offering you other die-cast aviation models from other manufacturersin the future. If you have any suggestions on models you would like us tocarry, please email us at diecasthobbies. Best regards and HappyHolidays,

Diecast Hobbies”

Some history on the ME-262 from various internet sources:

“The Messerschmitt Me 262, nicknamed Schwalbe (German: \"Swallow\")in fighter versions, or Sturmvogel(German: \"Storm Bird\") in fighter-bomber versions, was theworld\'s first operational jet-powered fighter aircraft. Design work startedbefore WorldWar II began, but problems with engines, metallurgy and top-levelinterference kept the aircraft from operational status with the Luftwaffe untilmid-1944. The Me 262 was faster and more heavily armed than any Allied fighter, including the Britishjet-powered Gloster Meteor. One of the most advanced aviation designs inoperational use during World War II, the Me 262\'s roles included lightbomber, reconnaissance and experimental nightfighter versions.

Me 262 pilots claimed atotal of 542 Allied aircraft shot down, although higher claims are sometimesmade. The Allies counteredits effectiveness in the air by attacking the aircraft on the ground and duringtakeoff and landing. Engine reliability problems, from the pioneering nature ofits Junkers Jumo 004 axial-flow turbojetengines—the first ever placed in mass production—and attacks by Allied forceson fuel supplies during the deteriorating late-war situation also reduced theeffectiveness of the aircraft as a fighting force. In the end, the Me 262 had anegligible impact on the course of the war as a result of its late introductionand the consequently small numbers put in operational service.

While German use of theaircraft ended with the close of World War II, a small number were operated bythe Czechoslovak Air Force until 1951. CapturedMe 262s were studied and flight tested by the major powers, and ultimatelyinfluenced the designs of a number of post-war aircraft such as the North American F-86 Sabre and Boeing B-47 Stratojet. A number of aircraftsurvive on static display in museums, and there are several privately builtflying reproductions that use modern General Electric J85 engines.”
