Navajo weaver Evelyn Joe of Cove,Arizona wove this Late Classic Period design serape. It has wideindigo blue and teal bands containing red and white crosses.Transverse thin stripes of lavender andred chevrons are between the blueand teal bands to complete the design.We provided Evelynwith mill-spun, single-ply yarn composed of 70%mohair (Angora goat) and 30% wool to weave it. Our company hand dyed these colors:the aniline red, silvergray and teal; the natural dyedindigo blue; and the natural dyedlavender cochineal. The black and whitewere used as purchased from the vendor. The weft selvages along both edgesare 2 x 2-ply black and silver graycords. The warp selvages on both ends are 2 x 2-ply lavenderand red cords. The woven density is 10warps per inch and 38 wefts per inch. The warp is single ply,mill-spun wool. The 70% Angora yarn woven in this density yields asupple, soft blanket.
