P1929 Dress Blue Uniform Pvt RF Duffey Co A Legation China 1931-34 Marine USMC:
$175.00

This is the pre-war P1929 Dress Blue United States Marine Corps uniform (blouse, trousers, belt) worn by Private Russell F Duffey while he served with the Marine Detachment, American Legation, Pieping China in the early 1930s. I purchased this uniform in 2006.
Before I get into the description, please keep in mind that I am an avid USMC collector, researcher, and amateur historian. I have the greatest amount of respect for these men- hence why I collect items that keep their names and their heroics alive. My items were obtained from the family directly or from a collector who obtained it from reputable sources (in this case, a USMC collector who was selling off a part of his collection wholesale). I am very firm on the fact that these are items of historical importance. Therefore, other than stating the item is displayed on a size 38 mannequin, I will not give out specific sizes. I do not feel these to be reenactor pieces, nor Halloween costumes. If you are a collector with a mannequin display, again, this is on a size 38 mannequin- a large size for the typical WWII Marine. The following information comes from Ancestry\'s USMC Muster Rolls. Before purchasing, please feel free to check the records yourself. To expedite the service history, I will touch upon the highlights of his career.
This rare uniform is named to Russell F. Duffey who enlisted in April of 1931 with Company C, Recruit Battalion, Parris Island, NC. By August of 1931 he is assigned to Company B, First Battalion of the First Marines in Quantico. In January of 1932 he travelled on board the USS Chaumont and arrived in Guam with his unit on 14 December 1931. He was stationed at Guam with the 1/1 Marines up until February of 1933. In April of 1933 he joined Company A, Marine Detachment of the American Legation in Pieping, China. He remained with the American Legation up until September of 1934 when he transferred Stateside to Marine Barracks, Navy Yard, Mare Island in December 1934. He was honorably discharged in Philadelphia on 26 April 1935 before re-upping with the reserves. He was the true definition of a China Marine. This early P1929 Dress Blue Blouse and trousers are stamp named to Duffey (\"RF Duffey\" in interior of blouse sleeve and waist line). The Duffey name is stamped multiple times in the sleeves. The trousers are 1928-1929 dated and the white (now toned) linen X stitch belt seems to be of Chinese manufacture. The blouse and trousers have no odors and are in decent exterior condition overall (please see the condition details above). The Efficiency E sleev rate is true to the uniform and was probably given for gunnery drills done at Pieping (he was on Gunnery Course detail). It seems this piece probably had droop wing EGAs on it, but those seem to have been taken off long ago (any easy fix if you can afford them). To find pre-war China Marine pieces are exceptionally tough, but to find a named complete uniform with in-country made- these have all but dried up on the collector market. This is truly a scarce piece at a time when the Corps was reduced greatly in numbers.
If you have any further questions about this item, please let me know. It comes from a smoke free home and was properly stored in a humidity and temperature controlled collection. I have listed multiple shipping options to best suit your needs. Please understand that I do not and will not make profit from shipping - if anything, I lose money due to fees.
