Click to View Image Album This 1940\'s zippered book holder is PERSONALLY HAND-SIGNED by DUNCAN HINES, (1880–1959) American pioneer of restaurant ratings for travelers, best known today for the brand of food products that bears his name.
The holder and recipe book \"ADVENTURES IN GOOD COOKING AND THE ART OF CARVING IN THE HOME\" was presented to Hines\' good friend Hazel Staley of Indianapolis, Indiana. (Hazel\'s husband F. Durward Staley was the owner of the Staley Sign Co in Indianapolis, who supplied the signs that Hines sold to establishments around the country.)
In white ink, Duncan Hines has written inside the front cover of the holder: \"Please Note: These books are presented to Hazel Staley for her personal use- Please do not borrow. Sincerely Duncan Hines, author / 7/5/41\"
Also included are 2 original 1943 postcards of the home of Duncan Hines, and 2 handwritten recipes in an unknown hand.
