For your consideration is a set of export licenses and supply assistance for the purchase of coke tin plate for oil production, ordered in October and December of 1952 for use by the Iranian National Oil company along with a press release from the State Department for the same year.
The license for October is signed by the Persian ambassador to the US, Allah-Yar Saleh اللهیار صالح for coke tin plate to be used in oil production.
In March 1951, the Iranian parliament voted to nationalize the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company and its holdings. Shortly thereafter the Iranian public elected a champion of nationalism, Dr. Mohammed Mossadegh, as the prime minister. Up until that point, the English had been paying a mere 16% in oil royalties to the Iranian government and the Iranian public had become restless. By that summer, the British were kicked out of the Iran’s oil fields but were able to sanction Iran’s oil while increasing production in other Gulf states. This prompted Dr. Mossadegh to seek out American supplies. On his trip to Washington DC in October 1952, he was able to secure new contracts needed for oil production.
