YOUNG BOY HOLDING A MUSKETI know you know how RARE this American Daguerreotype is.The old saying ...A picture is worth a thousand words ... I will let this one speak for itself.
This Very Rare Daguerreotype c1850 is of a young boy sitting on top of a table cloth covered posing table with his feet in the chair posing for the Daguerreotypist. He is dressed in his finest clothes in the bright light of the studio window and holding onto the chair back with one hand and holding his revolving action rifle or musket in the other. He has been professionally tinted on his face, arms and upper torso. His \"dress\" is typical of the day and \"dresses\" were worn by both young boys and young girls. This daguerreotype is museum quality and should find a home in any advanced collection.This sixth plate Daguerreotype is in great condition with a mirror like surface and a copper back and has been resealed with archival P90 tape. As expected for a daguerreotype 160 years old and \"for the record\" there is a wash of tarnish around the mat opening and more on the top and bottom. There are a few spots, mold spiders and dust under the glass and on the plate that do not detract from the importance of this image.The image is housed in the original nondescript geometric design case as when I purchased it many years ago.Condition is very subjective so please see photos below for your judgment on condition before you offer.
