SIGNED MIRRLE SQUIRES ENAMEL COPPER ART BOWL ABSTRACT MIDCENTURY MODERN 11 1/2\":
$350.00

HERE’S AN OUTSTANDING ORIGINAL VINTAGE 1950S OR 1960S SIGNED ENAMEL-ON-COPPER FREE-FORM BOWL BY SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ARTIST MIRRLE SQUIRES!

Measuring eleven and one half inches (11 1/2”) across the top at its widest point by three and three quarter inches (3 3/4”) in height at its highest point, enamelist Mirrle Squires created a hand-made and hand-beaten free-form enamel-on-copper bowl with varying heights to the sides and undulating peaks and valleys to the top rim. The surface of the copper bowl itself was aggressively hand-beaten to give it a “warty” texture. She then used an abstract painterly technique to render the bowl’s interior with bold brush-strokes of blue, purple, white, and reddish-pink enamels set against a translucent pink enamel background. And the bowl’s underside is counter enameled in a similar translucent pink enamel down to where the artist’s signature is located on the bottom. Here the bowl is signed “Mirrle” within a thicker opaque pink enamel.

This bowl displays both an organic and somewhat brutalist design concept while being an absolutely amazing example of midcentury modernism! Mirrle Squires was obviously a highly accomplished artist.

Condition: Excellent and beautiful! For an enamel of this size and of this age that has translucent enameling, this bowl is astonishingly flawless. There are a couple of very small firing dimples but these are original to the bowl. And there are felt remnants on the underside bottom.
