SMALL LOT: 20 Airline Metal Ticket Validation Plates rare collectible airways For Sale

This is a rare vintage collection of 20 embossed metal plates issued by airlines to travel agencies to validate hand-written paper tickets, much like a credit card. The airlines phased out the actual plates (along with paper tickets) during the1990s.

Airline validation plates were used when airlines and travel agencies issued hand written airline tickets prior to the electronic age. Airline tickets were placed on a manual credit card imprinting machine with the appropriate airline plate in place of the credit card, and then swiped to imprint the airline information to “validate” the ticket.

These plates were used in a busy travel agency and will have normal vintage wear; occasionally there will be tape on the back (for better traction on the machine) and some corrosion commensurate with the age of the plate may be present.

These great collectible plates are becoming more difficult to find and will only continue to increase in value - especially for airlines that are no longer in operation. This interesting piece of history will be a nice addition to your travel collection, or a wonderfully unique gift for any airline memorabilia aficionado.
