This lovely handcrafted Russian lacquer box is hand painted with the famous St. Basil\'s Cathedral, Kremlin Clock Tower, as well as various Kremlin buildings and churches. The Mother of Pearl shimmers in the background behind the buildings as well as along the ground. The Mother of Pearl is inlaid into the papier-mache lid before painting. Russian lacquer boxes are famous for the many layers of painting and the layers of lacquer between each layer of painting. These numerous layers give the 3D impression of depth. Some boxes have over 10 layers of lacquer between the layers of paint. This box is hand painted and signed by the artist.This box measures approximately 5 inches by 3.5 inches by just over 1.25 inches.
